Overview
The Roland TrueVIS MG2 series is a large-format UV printer/cutter that combines UV printing, special effects and integrated contour cutting. It comes in two widths: the 64-inch MG2-640, for media from 335 to 1,625 mm, and the 30-inch MG2-300, for media from 182 to 762 mm. Both models use the same print head, 1,000 ml UV ink pouches and cutting system. They print at up to 1,800 dpi and can be set up with up to eight colours, including white, gloss, orange and red.
Five Layers In A Single Pass
The MG2 prints three to five layers of CMYK, white and gloss in a single pass, without pulling the media back between layers, reducing the risk of registration errors. Use it for transparent decals with white underprints, double-sided window graphics, textures and spot gloss. Layered jobs are set up in VersaWorks 7 using Generate Layered Job and One Pass Multilayer Printing.
Up To Eight Colours
Choose the ink set that suits your work: CMYK×2 (4 colours), CMYKGlGlWhWh (6 colours), CMYKOrReWhWh (7 colours) or CMYKOrReGlWh (8 colours). Orange and red inks extend the colour gamut beyond CMYK to reproduce more brand colours. White and gloss inks add underprints, reverse printing and varnish effects.
1,000 ml Ink Pouches
EUV5EP ink comes in 1,000 ml pouches, double the size of the previous MG series cartridges. Roland DG states this can reduce running costs by up to 40% compared with 500 ml inks, with fewer interruptions to change ink.
Integrated Print And Cut
The cutting carriage runs at 10 to 300 mm/s with a blade force of up to 500 gf, so labels, stickers and shaped graphics can be produced without separate finishing equipment or cutting dies. A media take-up unit is included as standard and works together with the print and cut function.
Segmented UV-LED Lamp And Front Heater
Each segment of the built-in UV-LED lamp can be switched on or off independently, which gives more control over gloss varnish effects. A front heater, adjustable from 30 to 55 °C and built into the apron, stops the media lifting after UV curing.
Cloth Wiper And Customisable Maintenance
A cloth wiper cleans the print head surface and removes small ink stains that rubber wipers can miss, helping to prevent nozzle dropout. You can set the type and frequency of automatic cleaning and ink circulation to favour either stability or lower ink consumption, and schedule the printer to switch on automatically for each day of the week.
7-Inch Touch Panel
A 7-inch 1,024 × 600 touch panel replaces the previous two-line display. Print history can be checked from the panel, and Roland DG Connect monitors device status remotely.

FAQ
What is the difference between the MG2-640 and the MG2-300?
The MG2-640 takes media from 335 to 1,625 mm wide, prints and cuts up to 1,600 mm and holds rolls up to 45 kg. The MG2-300 takes media from 182 to 762 mm, prints and cuts up to 736 mm and holds rolls up to 30 kg. Both share the same print head, inks, cutting system and features.
Which ink configurations are available?
With EUV5EP ink there are four: CMYK×2 (4 colours), CMYKGlGlWhWh (6 colours), CMYKOrReWhWh (7 colours) and CMYKOrReGlWh (8 colours). D-UA2P ink is available in the 4-colour and 6-colour configurations. All inks come in 1,000 ml pouches.
Can the MG2 print white, colour and gloss in one pass?
Yes. One Pass Multilayer Printing lays down three to five layers in a single pass without reverse-feeding the media. Layered jobs are set up in VersaWorks 7 Ver. 7.8.0 or later.
What has changed from the original TrueVIS MG-640/300?
The MG2 uses 1,000 ml ink pouches instead of 500 ml cartridges, a 7-inch touch panel instead of a two-line text display, and adds a built-in front heater. The take-up unit is now standard (it was an option on the MG). A cloth wiper, a carriage lock between the print and cut carriages, and user-adjustable automatic maintenance are also new.
What working environment does the MG2 need?
Roland DG specifies 20 to 32 °C and 35 to 80% relative humidity, with no condensation, during operation. Allow 5 to 20 minutes for the front heater to warm up after power-on, depending on the room conditions.
