Overview
The Roland VersaSTUDIO MPX-90S is a compact desktop metal printer for personalising jewellery, pendants, key rings, pens, pet tags and trophy plates. A diamond-tipped pin strikes the surface to mark text, logos and even photographs onto gold, silver, copper, platinum, brass, aluminium, titanium, iron and stainless steel.
There is no cutter, so the MPX-90S produces no shavings, dust, odours or smoke. At 10.8 kg it fits on an office desk or a counter and can be taken to events for on-the-spot personalisation, making it a low-cost way for Malaysian gift shops, jewellers and award makers to offer custom-marked metal products.
Diamond-Tipped Impact Head
The MPH-90 print head has a 0.8 mm diamond-tipped pin with 1.8 N of impact power, 2.5 times that of the earlier MPX-80. Its wider stylus angle reflects more light from each dot for a clear, vivid and sharp impression, and harder metals such as titanium and iron print more sharply than on the MPX-80. Users can replace the head themselves.
Photo, Text and Vector Modes
Choose Text (265 dpi), Photo (353 dpi) or High Resolution (529 dpi) raster modes, or Vector mode at 1,058 dpi for fine line work. Imprinting runs at up to 50 mm/sec in Photo mode, and vector printing is faster than on the MPX-80.
Wide Loadable Space
Items up to 100 × 200 × 40 mm fit in the machine, with an imprint area of up to 80 × 80 mm. The head moves in both X and Y while the table stays still, so materials larger than the table can be loaded.
Marks Flat and Curved Items
The head cap follows the height of the material, so the MPX-90S can mark curved items such as pens, bracelets, money clips, badges and rings. For shiny surfaces that scratch easily, the head height can be fixed and the cap removed. A centre vise holds items that are hard to set on the rubber sheet.
METAZA Studio and Utility Software
METAZA Studio is included for laying out designs and imprinting in a simple workflow. SFEdit2 converts standard fonts into editable vector fonts, and MPX-90 Head Manager guides head replacement and pin force adjustment and shows remaining pin life.
Compact, Clean and Quiet
The machine measures 286 × 383 × 308 mm, draws about 24 W through its AC adapter and runs at 70 dB (A) or less. It connects to a Windows computer by USB.

FAQ
Which materials can the MPX-90S mark?
Metals such as gold, silver, copper, platinum, brass, aluminium, nickel, titanium, iron and stainless steel, provided the surface hardness is 200 HV (Vickers) or less and the surface is polished or plated. Transparent or semi-transparent plastic and acrylic can also be marked. Matte or hairline finishes, deep-coloured acrylic and opaque plastic are not recommended, and glass, stone, porcelain, wood, rubber and elastic plastics cannot be printed.
Does it cut the metal or create dust?
No. The MPX-90S marks by striking the surface with a diamond-tipped pin to form dots, rather than cutting with a rotating tool, so it produces no shavings, dust, odours or smoke.
Can I mark rings, pens and other curved items?
Yes. With the head cap fitted, the head follows the surface height, so pens, bracelets, money clips, badges and rings can be marked. The printable area on a curved surface depends on the curve: on a true cylinder of 20 mm diameter, Roland gives a printable width of 4.0 mm, with quality assured over 2.8 mm.
How long does the print head last?
The MPH-90 head is rated at 100 million dots, about 4,000 pieces when printing 30 × 23 mm photos on Roland's nickel-coated plates. Head Manager shows the remaining life, and you can replace the head and adjust pin force yourself. Replace the head cap when it wears down; it wears much faster on soft pure aluminium than on brass.
What computer do I need?
A Windows computer preinstalled with Windows 11, 10 or 8.1 (32- or 64-bit), or upgraded from Windows 8.1 or later, connected with the included USB cable.
