Print Traffic Signs Digitally with HP Latex & 3M Reflective Sheeting

Certified Partnership: 3M Logo SAi Logo

Traffic signage has traditionally been the domain of screen printing — expensive setup, long lead times, and minimum order quantities that made short runs unviable. That has now changed. HP has certified its Latex printing platform with 3M Reflective Sheeting, enabling sign makers to produce professional-grade reflective traffic signs digitally — on demand, one piece at a time if needed, with full retroreflectivity and warranties up to 12 years.

With the new HP Latex 730 and 830 series printers replacing the proven HP Latex 700 and 800 series, this solution is now faster, more productive, and more accessible than ever. Whether you're a sign shop looking for a new revenue stream, or a municipality wanting to bring sign production in-house, this is an opportunity worth serious attention.

What Is Digital Traffic Signage Printing?

Digital traffic sign printing means applying HP Latex Inks directly onto 3M Reflective Sheeting — the same retroreflective material used in official road sign production worldwide. Instead of screen printing individual color layers, your HP Latex printer prints the entire sign design in a single pass, in full color, at production speeds.

The result is a bright, durable, retroreflective sign that meets traffic regulations for green, blue, brown, red, purple, black, and yellow colors — ready for lamination, cutting, and installation in just a few simple steps.

Why This Is a Game-Changing Revenue Opportunity

🖨️

Print On Demand

No minimum order quantities. Run a single sign or a batch of hundreds. Respond to urgent orders that screen printers cannot fulfill.

Fast Turnaround

Design, print, laminate, cut, install — production in hours, not days. Serve time-sensitive municipal and construction contracts.

🏆

12-Year Warranty

Traffic signs printed with the HP + 3M solution qualify for the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty — the same guarantee demanded by government buyers.

💰

Lower Running Costs

Automatic, low-maintenance printing reduces monitoring time and labour costs. The HP Latex platform is designed for unattended production runs.

🌿

Sustainable Production

Water-based HP Latex Inks require no special ventilation or external dryers. Safe for your workspace and your team from day one.

📐

Wide Application Range

The same printer produces your entire signage portfolio — banners, retail graphics, vehicle wraps, and now traffic signs. One machine, multiple markets.

Important Technical Notes

Note on Traffic Yellow: The HP Latex 730 and 830 series cannot print traffic yellow directly — this colour is not retroreflective enough to meet regulated traffic sign requirements when printed with inkjet inks. Use 3M yellow reflective sheeting as the substrate base for yellow signs.
Note on White Ink (W Models): The 3M MCS Warranty for Traffic is also available for HP Latex 730W and 830W printers — but only when printing in colour mode (no white ink). White ink printing does not qualify for the traffic warranty.
Note on Ventilation: HP Latex Inks are water-based and do not require special ventilation equipment or air filtration systems to meet OSHA requirements. No external dryer is required. This makes installation simple and compliant from day one.

Why Now Is the Right Time to Enter the Traffic Signage Market

Traffic signage is one of the most stable and recession-resistant print markets. Road infrastructure spending continues to grow across the region, driven by urbanisation, highway expansion, and smart city initiatives. Municipal and construction buyers value suppliers who can deliver fast, accurate, and warranted signs — and digital HP Latex production gives you exactly that edge over traditional screen printers.

HP introduced Latex Printing Technology in 2008, and with thousands of printers now installed worldwide, it is one of the most trusted large-format platforms in the industry. The 730 and 830 series bring the latest generation of speed, sustainability, and reliability — with the same proven 3M-certified output quality that has been adopted by sign makers globally.

The combination of HP Latex + 3M Reflective Sheeting + SAi FlexiPRINT Traffic Edition is a complete, tested, warranted solution. It removes the guesswork from entering a regulated market and gives you the credibility to compete for government and infrastructure contracts from day one.
